We woke up that morning in peaceful Edam ready to partake in what was the whole point of the trip in the first place: to see the tulips.
Our hotel, Hotel Fortuna, was wonderful and I recommend it to anyone going to Nederland. Forget staying in Amsterdam. Hotel Fortuna is independently owned, with a wonderful staff and located in a charming, quiet town on the North Sea.

Canals everywhere. I love Nederland! |
The bus depot is close and buses run frequently to Amsterdam. The ride is 10 euro roundtrip if you get a regional day pass and takes twenty-five to forty minutes, depending on the bus route (take 316 instead of 314 - it's faster) and the traffic. From Amsterdam Centraal, it was a forty-five minute bus trip to Lisse, where Keukenhof Gardens are located. Here are some of the sights we saw on the way. I show you this because you have to imagine what it is like to be driving down a road and suddenly seeing fields of tulips.

No Balloons. Absolutely none. |

Schipol from the bus |

Modern Dutch windmills. Practical, but can't beat the traditional ones. |

We got a seat. Here is the first site of tulips. |
|
Rainbows on the ground! |

More fields from afar |

Ohio should consider growing tulips instead of corn. Far less boring. |

Reaching the city of Lisse |

Around and around |

Keukenhof entrance. Yes, there were many, many people. |
