When the troops finally get to come home (if?), they will be thanking people who tried to get them armor and who tried to get them home rather than those who put a ribbon on the back of the vehicle that is the reason they are there in the first place. And they will understand better than any of the flagwavers what it is to be an American. They already do.

schools are locally run. the same dumbasses that suspend students for talking to their mothers in iraq would be equally idiotic running some private school, only the students don't have the protection of the gov in private schools.

right. you haven't been paying attention. i guess you've been reading too much from moldy footballs. i have to cut the grass now, but i'll post more on the alexandria declaration and the muslim intellectual movement going on now. and don't worry, i won't post any juan cole.
Grass is cut. It looks quite nice. I wish I had taken photos of how bare my little patch of yard was, because the grass looks beautiful now. And my spinach is looking awesome. I actually ate a spinach salad the other day. Something keeps eating my strawberries, though. How lucky I am to have grown up in America, where I can grow a little garden without worrying about people coming and bombing it. My yard is my favorite room in the house. I grill the best hamburgers on the planet. Nothing better than sitting out here grilling hamburgers and drinking beer. I wish my friends and acquaintances in Iraq could be here to enjoy it with me. Because although I may be sitting here, barefoot and enjoying a Sam Adams and the nice weather, the fact that Americans are risking their lives to give me that privelege never leaves the back of my mind. Sometimes it is in the front of my mind, like today. For some reason, today, I have been unable to forget about them. They are probably roasting under the May sun already, while I sit here enjoying a pleasant Saturday afternoon, drinking a beer, grilling hamburgers, and watching baseball over the internet. The grass feels lovely on my feet, much more comfortable than those combat boots on hot sand are. Maybe I feel a bit guilty for being allowed to sit here in enjoyment. Maybe I feel helpless for not being able to stop it. Maybe I am afraid that it is just going to get worse. Maybe it is all of the above, plus some.
I promise I'll post the Muslim stuff, but later. I'm always a big fan of religious enlightenment. I'm not, after all, an atheist.

funny, the vast majority of troops are eager to return. maybe they know something you who have sat here in the US do not know.
